Editorial Structure

Overview

The strength and success of the Bulletin of Pharmaceutical & Medicinal Research (BPMR) rest on a dedicated editorial team whose expertise drives the journal's strategic direction and ensures the quality of its publications. Each editorial role is designed with distinct responsibilities that align with our journal’s mission and objectives, establishing a unified structure that supports our aims and scope.

Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief (EiC) serves as the head of the journal, overseeing its content and editorial processes. The EiC's primary responsibilities include:

  • Defining the journal’s scope;
  • Establishing the journal's strategy in collaboration with the publisher and affiliated organization;
  • Assessing authors' submissions;
  • Making editorial decisions;
  • Managing the peer-review process;
  • Ensuring a sustainable and timely publication flow;
  • Authorizing academic content;
  • Addressing submission inquiries;
  • Recommending new board members;
  • Arranging commercial advertising opportunities;
  • Identifying funding sources to support thematic article collections for supplement issues;
  • Serving as an ambassador for the journal;
  • Representing the journal at conferences and other events.

Managing Editor

The Managing Editor is responsible for the end-to-end operations of the journal, ensuring that all processes are both efficient and aligned with the journal’s strategic objectives. The primary duties of the Managing Editor include:

  • Coordinating with the editorial team to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow;
  • Managing timelines to ensure adherence to publication schedules;
  • Optimizing editorial processes to uphold and improve journal quality standards;
  • Implementing editorial policies in alignment with the journal’s strategic goals;
  • Supporting the editorial board in decision-making processes;
  • Monitoring performance metrics and recommending process improvements.

Executive Editor

The Executive Editor focuses on coordinating with national and international regulatory bodies and agencies. The primary duties of the Executive Editor include:

  • Managing relationships with abstracting and indexing services;
  • Overseeing processes for securing the journal’s inclusion in relevant databases as well as directories;
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines for academic publishing;
  • Collaborating with the editorial team to align indexing and database strategies with the journal’s goals.

Editor

The Editor plays a key role in maintaining the journal's profile and enhancing its reputation. The EiC may delegate certain responsibilities to the Editor, granting them authority to make decisions on behalf of the EiC. The Editor shares responsibility for the journal's content. The Editor's primary duties include:

  • Assessing authors' submissions;
  • Making editorial decisions;
  • Managing the peer-review process;
  • Authorizing academic content;
  • Handling submission inquiries;
  • Recommending new board members;
  • Identifying funding sources to support thematic article collections for supplement issues;
  • Representing the journal at conferences and other events.

BPMR may appoint section or specialty editors, who operate under the same terms and conditions as the Editor. These editors are assigned to specific sections of the journal based on their expertise and are dedicated to overseeing content in their specialized areas.

Associate Editors

Associate Editors are responsible for reviewing manuscripts within their areas of expertise, coordinating the peer review process, and liaising with authors, reviewers, and board members. They ensure that submissions meet academic and ethical standards, provide constructive feedback to authors, recommend revisions, and assist the editorial team in decision-making to uphold the quality of the journal’s content.

Assistant Editors

BPMR may appoint Assistant Editors, who are primarily responsible for tasks assigned by the EiC, Editor, or Associate Editors, such as coordinating manuscript processing, supporting communication with authors and reviewers, and assisting in maintaining the editorial workflow.

Statistical Editor

The Statistical Editor’s primary responsibilities include providing statistical expertise, guidance, and feedback to ensure adherence to rigorous methodological and statistical standards. This role involves producing thorough evaluations that contribute to the overall editorial feedback process.

Statistician

The primary responsibility of the Statistician is to conduct a thorough review of the manuscript, from the title to the references. This role may also involve requesting clarifications or explanations from authors regarding the manuscript's text or data.

Biostatistician

The primary responsibility of the Biostatistician is to conduct a comprehensive review of the manuscript, from the title through to the references. This may involve requesting clarifications or explanations from authors regarding the manuscript's text or data. For randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the Biostatistician shall also review the study protocol to assess whether all protocol objectives have been achieved and appropriately reported.

Copy Editor

The Copy Editor ensures that the accepted manuscript is accurate in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and terminology, and that it flows smoothly from beginning to end. Additionally, the Copy Editor formats the manuscript to adhere to the journal’s in-house style. The Copy Editor’s responsibilities include:

  • Preparing manuscripts for electronic and print production;
  • Ensuring deadlines, style requirements, and publication schedules are met;
  • Copyediting, reviewing, and providing feedback on editing work performed by others;
  • Providing support to authors throughout the publication process;
  • Addressing queries and special requests, and coordinating with editorial, press, marketing, and supplier teams;
  • Managing workload independently to meet publication deadlines;
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams on initiatives and projects.

Editorial Assistant

The Editorial Assistant (EA) is an administrative position primarily responsible for managing the non-strategic tasks of the journal. Key responsibilities of the EA include:

  • Scrutinizing incoming submissions to ensure they are free from plagiarism and adhere to author guidelines;
  • Overseeing the completion of internal and external processes for accepted manuscripts;
  • Liaising with the Copy Editor to ensure consistency and quality in manuscript preparation;
  • Assisting editors in soliciting peer reviews as needed.

Editorial Board

The Editorial Board is a team of experts in the journal's field who work collaboratively toward a range of objectives. Their primary responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the EiC and other editors in the decision-making process;
  • Contributing ideas and offering expertise to help shape the journal’s scope, goals, processes, and policies;
  • Collaborating with distinguished professionals within the field to support journal operations;
  • Attracting new authors and submissions across various disciplines, including sciences, health sciences, social sciences, and pharmaceutical sciences;
  • Promoting the journal among colleagues and peers;
  • Identifying funding sources for themed article collections (e.g., education, exchange of research information) that can be published as supplement issues.

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board, comprising national and international experts, is responsible for guiding the journal’s strategic direction and providing actionable advice on maintaining and enhancing academic and ethical standards. Key responsibilities of the Advisory Board include:

  • Assisting in the development of initiatives to increase the journal’s visibility;
  • Supporting the journal’s growth in global indexing and abstracting platforms;
  • Collaborating on strategies that enhance the journal’s appeal to authors, readers, and institutions worldwide;
  • Offering guidance to uphold rigorous academic and ethical standards;
  • Identifying emerging trends and advising on critical issues within the field to keep the journal’s content relevant and impactful.

Term & Renewal

Editorial board members serve a three-year term, with renewal by the Executive Board on a rolling basis following performance review.

Appointment & Removal

The Executive Board may appoint or remove editorial board members based on performance, adherence to policies, and strategic objectives.

Editorial Board Meetings

The Editorial Board members will meet periodically, either online or onsite, to evaluate the journal’s performance and discuss future goals. The frequency of these meetings will be determined based on the journal’s specific needs.
